Select one specific built environment. Spend a lot of time in this environment
and observe the behavior of the people who use it. Feel free to conduct interviews or hand out questionnaires
to get additional information. You
will be handing in a written report evaluating how effectively this environment
performs the functions for which it was designed. In your paper, be sure to clearly state the intent of the
environment; i.e., What kinds of behaviors, experiences, or tasks does this
kind of environment seek to encourage or discourage? What was your method of observation? What research strategy did you adopt? What kind of data did you use? If the environment is not functioning
effectively, state as specifically as you can the reasons why you think the
environment is not as good as it should be. In stating these reasons, be sure to draw upon the knowledge
you have gained from this course concerning people and their environmental
needs(e.g., privacy, comfort, stimulation, etc). If you had the ability, what would you change about this
environment (and why) in order to make it function more effectively?
