Respect others

Be open to others' opinions

Have topics which are interesting and exciting and of which people have general knowledge

Sit in a circle

Have someone in control of discussion

Maintain confidentiality

Create a safe and comfortable environment

Draw those not speaking into the discussion

Exhibit control if you dominate the discussion

Discuss/critique ideas, not people

Know the general purpose for the discussion

Break the big group into small groups

Have opened ended questions

Voice opinions

Come prepared

Take turns when speaking

Value the right to pass

Take notes if needed to refer back

Don't be afraid to ask questions

Challenge each other diplomatically

Speak clearly

Always look at your audience as you talk
