Videotaped Lesson

You will each videotape yourselves teaching a lesson at your fieldwork site.

First, you will need to arrange this with your cooperating teacher at the beginning of the term.

Second, this does not have to be an original lesson created by you, though that would be ideal. Consult with your cooperating teacher about this possibility. The real point is for us to see how you teach, not what you teach.

Third, the length of the tape is not important; what is important is that you have a complete lesson with a beginning, middle and end.

When you tape, try to keep the camera focused on you. These tapes will (1) not be shown to anyone not enrolled in this course but (2) will be included on your course portfolio CD, so permission slips probably aren't necessary. However, if your cooperating teacher thinks you should get parental permission, then do so.

Arranging the time and the taping equipment is your responsibility. The Ed. Studies Department does have a couple of cameras you can use, but you will need to purchase the tape to record on. You will need to sign out the Department's camera through Peggy. (Keep in mind that there are a lot of you between this class and the elementary classes, so the earlier you make your arrangements, the better!) You are, of course, welcome to provide your own camera, use one belonging to your school, or whatever, so long as we can playback and project your performance and so long as the tape can be moved to a CD. (Basically, that means you probably need to use the MiniDV camera. Knox doesn’t have the equipment to download other kinds of recordings.)

The video will be viewed and critiqued in a peer group if we have time. (5%)
