Jimmy D
Jimmy D. stood on the beach road,
Between the runway and the arctic sea,
And when the white chick's parting jet passed over --
That white chick
With the blond hair and blue eyes,
That college girl from Seattle,
Whose name I never learned,
Who came to work for the summer,
And thought it a kick to seduce Jimmy D,
One of those women who find brown men exotic
And play with them like forbidden toys
Far from home,
But did not think of Rika, pretty Rika,
My friend, who loved him,
Rika, who came to me in angry pain,
Smelling of beer and seeking my bed,
Where no love was, but consolation,
Perhaps seeking my whiteness to repay,
In like measure, for the blue-eyed white chick --
When the white chick's parting plane passed over,
Jimmy stood on the unpaved beach road
Between the runway and the ancient sea,
And shot himself.
