Maze (2007)

Commercial fabrics, hand-appliquéd, hand-quilted

12 x 14 inches

Somewhere in the limited reading I did after Jeremy's death (mostly Psalms, and memoirs of others who had suffered the loss of a child), I came across the simile of life as a maze. The image captured my feeling of being lost, with a tortuous path ahead. But the image also brought to mind many happy hours spent with Jeremy as he worked maze puzzles. He especially enjoyed it when David and I would spend an extended period of time drawing a maze for him, which he would then solve in a minute. I think this piece could successfully be scaled up, but having made it this once is enough.
