Hand-dyed linen, couched silk-wrapped paper thread

After completing work that captured the color and texture of stones, I wanted to do one final large-scale quilt that worked with the shape of stones, a shape of solidity and comfort. I did a number of sketches and maquettes, but was not moved to go forward with any of them. Here's one of the thread sketches that I considered scaling up. In the end, I decided to leave it small scale and consider the series complete.
